Are you new to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare Trust? Welcome!

We are glad that you have chosen to join us.

Finding your feet in a new organisation can be tricky... we understand, as we were all new once! So we have put together these online induction resources, highlighting some key information about working in the Trust, to get you started.

The resources on this page supplement the information in the Welcome pack - an induction guide for new staff which you will have been sent on confirmation of your role and can also be accessed by clicking on the image below.

You should have received information about, and a link to, your session when you received your contract from the recruitment team. These 2-hour, virtual sessions are held at 10am on alternate Mondays and can also be accessed by clicking the link below.

We are a friendly and approachable team, who are here to support and advise you on how to manage complaints and patient feedback effectively within your services.

Every service within Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare is responsible for leading on the feedback they receive and for taking ownership of the concerns that are raised. This involves having timely conversations with people so there is good engagement, looking into the issues that have been reported and working together to reach a suitable resolution.

We recognise how important it is that staff are given the tools they need to be able to confidently address any concerns that are raised by patients, service users, carers and relatives. We will guide you on how to manage your feedback, to ensure you do this in line with the complaint regulations and guidance.

For more information, or any of our leaflets regarding complaints, please go to the Experience and engagement page and scroll down to the Complaints section.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the national regulator of health and care services.

Local Induction Resources

Access resources that are designed to support both you, the new starter, and your manager/supervisor to complete your local induction.

These documents are designed to support both you and your manager/supervisor as you complete your local induction.

Please download the Local Induction Checklist and go through each item with your manager/supervisor. You should feel free to ask as many questions as you like during this time and then date each section once you have completed it. There is space for you and your manager/supervisor to sign and date once everything on your local induction has been completed.

The New Starter Progress Review document allows you and your manager/supervisor to review your progress after the first week, first month and after three months, identifying what things have gone well and opportunities for improvement. It also allows priorities and objectives to be set at each stage.

NB: These resources are provided as Word documents to allow you to add as much information as is required, and for you to amend the resources to suit your local needs.

To help you as a manager/supervisor to become familiar with the process and resources available to you to deliver a best practice induction for all our new staff, we are running a series of drop-in sessions where we will be showcasing the induction process and resources. For a list of dates and a link to the sessions please click Dates for drop-in sessions - induction - demo for managers

To help you as a manager to deliver a best practice induction there are two main resources.

The Manager/supervisor guide to induction for new starters outlines what you need to do to support your new starter during their induction period and contains links to the main activities they need to access and resources for you to use.

The Manager/supervisor pack - induction resources contains all the resources that you will need in one handy pack, which you can use digitally or print out.

The resources in the manager's pack can be downloaded individually here.

Best practice induction criteria This resource identifies twelve criteria for a best practice induction that, if achieved, will ensure your new starter receives the best possible start at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare. New staff will be invited to share, with Learning and Development, their induction experience against these criteria at the end of their induction period.
New starter induction - manager responsibilities This resource outlines what needs to happen, when and who is involved to ensure that you deliver a best practice induction with your new starter.
Manager - Preparation for New Starter This is a checklist of actions you need to take once the new starter has been recruited or you confirm a start date, in order to ensure that all preparations have been made for them before Day 1.
Local induction checklist This checklist will guide you to cover all the elements that will help your new starter to settle into their new role and place of work. Once the local induction is complete, you and your new starter should sign the checklist and file it locally.
New Starter Progress Review This document allows you to review your new starter's progress after the first week, first month and after three months, identifying what things have gone well and opportunities for improvement. It also allows priorities and objectives to be set at each stage.
Temporary Staff Local Induction Checklist It is essential that all temporary staff (i.e. locums, doctors in training, honorary contract, student nurses, bank/agency staff) complete this with the appropriate supervisor before commencing work in a ward/unit/office for the first time. This form should be held on file for 12 months following the last day or shift they work for the Trust. (Legacy Southern Health - There is a separate but similar checklist for temporary workers who are working for NHS Professionals (NHSP)).

NB: These resources are provided as Word documents to allow you to add as much information as is required, and for you to amend the resources to suit your local needs.
